Something Fun w/ Artichoke

I have been dying for eons to do something fun with an artichoke. The other day, my family took a field trip to the neighborhood Bi/Lo in search of ingredients for my chipotle chili (fyi- fabulously caliente).

In the produce section a lonely artichoke called out. "I'm delicious! Take me home!"

"Otay"! i shouted with glee as i carefully packed him in my basket. Now he sits wondering what his fate may be. What should i do? I'm so excited but i haven't the foggiest idea what to do with him.

Country Christmas

Hey all and Happy Holidays! It was a real country Christmas. We went to Holly Hill, SC to visit the in- laws and we had a ball. We rode my brother-in-law's go cart! He tried to scare me but i was screaming with delight. It was an unbelievable experience going through the mud and taking air on a jump on a narrow path in the woods. I held on for dear life and could care less that i was wearing a skirt and mud was flying. I even got to shoot a beebee gun after dinner. I'm gonna get one for those pesky scavengers that tear up my garbage. The food was terrific. I made mac and cheese and a wonderful cake called Rainbow cake (got it from Mrs. F). Timmy is the best bloody cook on this planet and he made an addicting spiral ham, butterbeans, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet corn and OMG i ate until i passed out! Got to meet Eddie. He was hilarious! A real riot. He's an old time southerner that has spent time in the military, "white slavery", cab driving, even some time in the big house. Anyway, i hope we get to talk to him again one day. Ol' timers are awsome. They can talk for hours and it's better than tv. Well, i have to nurse my big baby. My hubby is suffering from what me and Isabella had.

Being Sick Used to be Fun

Being sick use to be fun... once upon a time. Being sick as an elementary schooler meant no school; in bed all day with PJs watching Pinwheel on Nickelodeon, not to forget being pampered. Maybe some Price is Right and I Dream of Genie. When i grew older, that meant no work and still getting paid; no morning commute; Young and the Restless and still Price is Right.
Now, i am running all over the place after my (still sick but better than i) toddler and maintaining the house! Today i washed clothes; cooked dinner [Szechwan], took a bath with my daughter; cleaned my whole houses spotless; organized Christmas cards; talked to my mother, father and 3/4 finished a Christmas quilt! I'm happy that i milked being sick for all it was worth when i had the chance these last 27 years 'cause those days are definitely over.

Judd Apatow Rules!

Sorry for the delay. Well, I've been nursing my daughter back to health (she has an ear infection and a cold) and i in the process got sick too. Not much to report other than a small piece of advice: if you are sick STAY THE HELL AWAY. Can i tell you that i do not enjoy staying up until 1 freaking o' clock in the morning because my toddler cannot breath through her nose; won't eat so she's crying 'cause she's hungry; snot all over her face! This sucks my @ss dry! Isabella usually is out like a light at 6pm!! My husband was a trooper though and stayed right beside us in a steam bath. He rules. You know who else rules? Judd Apatow.

I discovered his talents earlier this year when i rented (hail
NETFLIX) Freaks and Geeks on DVD. It was a show that was unlike anything i've ever watched. It was 1999 and i do not have a clue what garbage i was watching. It takes place during the 80s and explores teenaged angst in the most realistic way..i $hit you not! I was bummed when the final disc arrived. The show was cancelled mid season.
Judd Apatow returned to us with some other tv shows (that too were cancelled) and some off the wall comedies (please skip Anchorman though). 40 year old virgin is the funniest film i've ever seen. I laughed my ass off throughout the 7 times i've seen it. You too will love it, but i must warn you that if you don't like dick and fart jokes, the humor will be a tad junior high (i love dick and fart jokes..lmao). I saw it in the theater with my main bitch (she hated it) and a friend (loved it) on a mom's night out. Rent it. Buy it. Love it.

blah

Today was one of those days where i wished i just stayed in bed. Isabella was one of those snot nosed children today (all day) and i could not find solace in anything. I watched 40 year old Virgin for the 5th time and tried to watch Superman I but it was too painful. Boring!
There are many times when i dig a hole and jump in so that no one bothers me. That is why i have a small circle of friends and my phone barely rings, but you know, today i really needed a friend to talk to. Even a playdate (what the hell is that anyway..lol) would of been nice.
It's my own fault. I'm like Ms. Daisy illustrated above. She just permeate leave me alone. No man is an island..especially when your husband is working late and your main bitch has found a man.

No athlete in this stereotype

For today's nap time matinee was Bad News Bears starring my fav, Billy Bob Thorton. The film was hilarious with a great commentary (for you DVD geeks out there). It brought up some old memories for me. I was never the competitive type- excluding sibling rivalry. My parents didn't have me in t-ball, or soccer (i wanted to) and when i was in 6th grade i joined basketball. I never ever grasped the fundamentals but i kicked ass at foul shots and defense...lol. I remember screaming in my head "please don't pass me the ball. Please don't pass me the ball". Basketball camp: i brought the rain and kicked ass but to tell you the truth, that was a fluke. Even got a trophy. In high school i tried out for basketball (our school had like the #1 or 2 freshman team in the district), and i passed out during try outs while we were on a 10 minute break. I'm black. I statistically should have been awesome (especially since i went to a school that was only 13% minority!). I had friends calling me at home that night wondering what the hell happened. One minute i was there and the next i was crawling home. A year passed and i then tried out for softball. Even bigger mistake. We were the number one softball team in the district. My body stood like a freakin' antenna. I got hit in the face, both ankles, my back and arms. I made first cut but i didn't even come close to making the team at second cut. No black stereotype here either. Swimming was bad for the hair. I wasn't into the running thing because i was slllloooow. Cheerleading was a $hitty experience on the JV team for two years. Cheering for the jv all- girl basketball team was not exactly what it was cracked up to be. I wonder how many other athletic deficient black folks are there in the world. But i gotta tell you, i can dance and there is always dodgeball.

The island

Today was a low key day. It was cold and hinting rain. blah. Yesterday i watched a film that i thought was going to be dumb titled The Island. It was in the theatre for like 10 minutes and i read on www.Imdb.com that producers thought the actors were lifeless and that it was all their fault why the film bombed. Being a person who makes decisions based on my own observations i rented it anyway. It actually freaking rocked! I think that the reason it did so poorly at the theatres was the OMG factor. Great story (according to the commentary it's not too far fetched). A tad emotional at times and action packed. I love Michael Bay films like Bad Boys. I highly recommend it...especially if you like Steve Bushimi. FYI- no boobies in this action flick.

'Tis the season...

Let me tell you that today i was shocked into action because Christmas is only 13 days away. OMG! My theory is that South Carolina weather is to blame for it was almost 65- 70 degrees today. Back home i know they have had snow storms already. I have so much to do and so little time. This year i have decided to make most of my gifts for family and friends. Some will get a little something i put together and others, a tasty array of goodies. Isabella is far too young to even realize what Christmas is all about and really enjoy it. Maybe next year. She's still playing with a giant Dell computer box that she got from her last care package almost a month ago.

gonna figure this out

I'm gonna figure this html thing if it's the last thing i do. For the last several years i have been flirting with a blog. An outlet to express my daydreams, convictions and experiences. There was an article that suggested that blogging is a new form of thearpy. Anyway, i'm interested in having my own website but, damn, i can't get a site up. i can do lists and draw out schematics but i have the tendency to be short on delivery. I must concentrate! Wish me luck.
